Some years ago I put my name on an internet petition. I knew it was pointless but still held out some form of hope. That petition was for Parasite Eve 3.
Parasite Eve is Squares take on a 3rd person survival horror shooter for the PlayStation. After seeing how no.2 ended with a incredibly open ending I got all eager for the sequel only to discover there were no plans for one. Upon browsing the internet today I came across a title called the "3rd birthday". Recognising the main character as Parasite Eve's, Aya Brea, that small flutter of hope sprung back to life.
Immediately I looked into this "3rd birthday" only to have my hopes superbly and might I say, quite expertly dashed. It turns out the game isn't in fact considered part of the Parasite Eve story and is more of a spin off than a sequel. It's a PSP exclusive which brings the total amount of games I wish to play on the PSP up to 5, all of which I don't feel the need to own. I'm sick of Sony doing this with games I love. If the Metal Gear games on the PSP weren't, I would have rushed out and bought them like the little fanboy I am, but instead I checked out all the reviews online which told me they weren't great and mostly because of the system they were on.
Sony has really let me down over the past couple of years and it shows no signs of stopping. All of the tech demos I've seen for the Sony Move have been very impressive and I'm considering getting one, but the 2 things holding me back are interviews with Sony staff and every single commercial they have made advertising it. Promotion is meant to make me want to buy their products right? Well I'm sorry but when all you do is say "it's better then everything else" and not really explain why, you've lost my money.
Ever heard of Chad Warden? He's a notorious Sony fanboy (youtube him), who has absolutely no problem with slamming everything that isn't his beloved PS triple. He talks about how no console but the PS3 has any games worth playing, but still fails to mention any that are worth playing. He's also under the impression that the numbers after the title Final Fantasy are purely for show and serve no purpose what so ever. Apparently 7 was the first. The more Sony ads I see, the more I think that the people they're throwing out there to tell us about their products have Chad Warden on speed dial so they can instantly reminisce about how great they are.
What's wrong with just being humble? Why not let the products speak for themselves? Do they have to rely on shameless self promotion to get anything sold? Maybe if they improved their products they wouldn't have to resort to this sort of advertising.
Thought train over, think on it.
